My former employer fired me, acted like we were in good terms & destroyed me when a recruiter asked for references.
Today I got fired halfway through my two week notice. I had a very good opportunity for a job, the recruiter liked me but they absolutely wanted a reference from my last employer. I though we were in good terms, I had coffee with my former boss, we talked about the job and the call, she didn’t say a thing …
Lost Job Offer due to Bad Reference
After finishing up my third interview with a dream company, they told me they would put together my job offer after contacting my references, and that one of those references needs to be a former manager. In this field, you can’t get..

Suddenly found out that my previous manager gave me a bad reference. I only did a short stint with them (contractually, wasn’t fired), had no performance reviews, no disciplinary meetings, nothing…
Yesterday a recruiter told me that one of my references is a really bad reference. How do i handle this?
Since i started applying, i have gotten close to “the finish line” on four different occations. Four times, recruiters have asked me for my references “as a formality, before we send you an offer”, and every time the offer has never come. One recruiter even told me she was looking forward to working with me etc…
